Learning News from North Manchester

Exciting news from the YES centre in Newton Heath, a community ICT hub set up just about a year ago. The centre now has 60 people a day through the doors for help with internet access, paying bills online, claiming online benefits and the job club.

The centre has been so successful that Northwards Housing, the funders, are looking to expand to 3 further centres across North Manchester and a Computer centre, in Cheetham Hill, that deals solely with digital inclusion.

Our branch has been fully involved in the centre’s development right from the start, with assistance from digital champions and financial support from the Union Learning Fund.

Hopefully this will become the model that each and every RSL will adopt across the city.

If you are interested in being involved in union learning then have a chat with your Union Learning Rep, or you can call Steve Lynch our ULR Coordinator and Education Officer via the branch office.
