November Activity Month: Upcoming Events

Throughout November this year, UNISON Manchester are carrying out a number of activities to support recruitment, engage with our existing membership and to provide opportunities for members to talk about the fair pay campaign for council workers and school staff.

To help support recruitment, we encourage all members to take advantage of our branch “recruit-a-friend” scheme, whereby any new member you bring into the branch will entitle you to a £10 payment after the new joiner has paid their first month of UNISON subscriptions.

The branch has created editable PDF versions of the UNISON membership forms, which can now be completed electronically, and we also have paper copies available which can be sent out upon request.

There is a separate form available for each method of subscription payment: download this form for payment via deduction from salary and download this form for payment via Direct Debit. In event of any issue with the links, the forms have also been attached to this email for your convenience.

As part of November Activity Month, the branch plans to engage with our members through a number of methods, including email, text messages, phone banking and post. We hope to reach as many members as possible by using these different approaches.

In addition to this, we also intend to host a number of virtual meetings for members which will include an opportunity to discuss the fair pay campaign. It is crucial that we engage as many employees as possible around sending the clear message – Council and school workers deserve a fair and proper pay rise.

On Saturday 6 November, the COP26 Coalition have called for a Global Day for Climate Justice and in Manchester there will be a march and rally. You can join the Trade Union and Workers Bloc by assembling at 11:30am in Piccadilly Gardens, before marching to join the main demo in St Peter’s Square. To keep updated you should visit actionnetwork.org/events/cop26-manc-union-bloc. A flyer advertising the event can be downloaded from this link. Feel free to share this via your social media networks.

The branch has a lot planned for this month and we will share more details of upcoming events with you in due course. We welcome any member who wishes to get involved with the fair pay campaign, or helping to support the branch more generally.

If you wish to lend support, or find out more then please contact the branch office by sending an email to unison@manchester.gov.uk, or by phoning 0161 254 7500.
