UNISON says ‘Thanks’ for public service workers

“Public service workers have been heroes this week, our thanks go out to all of them,” said UNISON general secretary Dave Prentis commenting on the riots that swept across the country this week.

“From the police staff, fire crews and ambulance workers who faced danger at the hands of the rioters, to the street cleaners cleaning up the mess and the housing staff looking after those made homeless, all our members have contributed something.

“While everyone will have their own view on the reasons and causes behind the outbreaks of violence, one thing is certain,” he continued, “public service workers were there when our communities needed them. They deserve our thanks this week more than ever.”
