A message to our new members

As part of our recent strike action over 200 new members have joined UNISON Manchester.

We extend a warm welcome to you all.

As members of the branch you will start seeing the words “Unity is Strength” quite a lot. On this site and on any letters and leaflets you receive.

It is a phrase that has been used by trade unionists for generations. But it is more than just a slogan. It is at the heart of everything we do. With you as a new member our voice is louder and clearer. We can achieve more and we are all better protected in the workplace.

You may also hear the phrase an injury to one is an injury to all. It may sound a little old fashioned but the principle is simple. If someone treats you unfairly then they have treated over 9,000 other people unfairly and they all stand with you.

But we are not just here for industrial action or for when you have a problem. For instance there are a wide range of benefits you are now entitled to. More importantly you can also be involved and have your say within the union.

We are a collective. We all do our bit, no matter how small and we all share in UNISON’s successes. If you have skills you think you can use to help your fellow members in some way, or just want to find out more about what we do, then contact the branch office.

Thank you to adding your voice to ours and welcome.
